Last week my friend Jodi told me she thought I could make a trellis.

Yesterday my Dad told me to be sure to pre-drill the second board I was drilling into, in order to create a strong support structure.

Louis, my favorite mountain man friend, directed me to hex screws after my “I’m a Stripper” post yesterday. I balanced all of my weight (torque per dad) over the drill and the hex screws worked like magic.

Now I just have the fun decorating/finishing touches left.

TWO suns. The sun reflected a few times in a weeping grape vine on the trellis project. What a beautiful moment in a fun day.

TWO trellises- cheers!

Is there a character called Shadow Face?

I can’t wait to unravel the vines from the flimsy small metal structures on either side of the new trellis and train them up the sides. The flowering vines outgrew the small metal supports a few years ago.

I tried to wrap smaller grape vine around the trellis, but it wasn't covering the boards as much as I'd like.
I grabbed some thicker branches that were easily fastened to the boards and covered them nicely.
Tomorrow I'll take most of the grape vine off and start my new layering technique.

  1. Great job, Melissa. I’m proud of you. See? All you had to do was put the hex on them screws. :-)

    Happy Easter, Love. :-)

Ha, I think I’m handier than Jodi. I only know Louis vie the internet and he lives hours away. My dad said he was sure I wouldn’t be able to do the project without help…which made me only want to do the project without help. I’m on an independent streak.

We do indeed have something in common.

You said “My dad said he was sure I wouldn’t be able to do the project without help…which made me only want to do the project without help.”

I’m that way as well. All one has to do to get me to do something is tell me I can’t. Independent is my middle name. Actually the proper term which describes me is a bit stronger – how bout STUBBORN, I’ll admit it!

Thanks for the hat tip, Melissa. I’m glad the hex screws worked for you. It’s funny – my mind was visualizing something like a rose trellis against a wall, rather than what you have for a grape vine. I have a LOT of grape vines growing as well, but they are held up in trees (they make a great trellis) and are wild. Anyone for some Muscadine Wine? I love the pictures but – well – where is the double entendre, provocative title, lol?

Yeah it’s probably called an arbor or something. (: Who knows, but I knew I wanted one. lol

The grape vines I’m using are spread over old dead sumac trees in a wild overgrown part of the yard. I’m cutting them and swinging on them to tear them down away from the dead trees. So far I’ve only gotten one hunk of bark in my eye and fallen backward into the raspberry canes a few times….the pokes help keep me on my toes. (: Sincere thanks for your hex help!!!!
