It snowed a few inches every day last week.

The local area is still about 30" below normal snow fall.

Then the skies cleared. Michigan enjoys maybe two or three clear days most winter months.

First run this winter in deep snow. Up until now it's been a little snow or a little ice.

Snow covered ant hills. That's my glove for perspective.

Snow covered ant hills. That’s my glove for perspective. I’d like to dare some one to lay across them during the summer.

More ant hills.

The woods were packed with cross-country skiers and their golden retrievers. I forgot, until I got on the trail, that the skiers rule the trail. The skiers claim the center of the trail as their territory. There is even a sign at the trail head with a diagram of the ski tracks in the center of the trail and the snow shoes on the outer edges of the trail. (feet not even illustrated and bikes not allowed)

A rare spot with room for two lanes of traffic. The rest of the trail system only has room for the skiers. I ran alongside the trail most of the time. I am still amazingly sore days later.

This is the sunflower the one-legged grasshopper hung out on for three weeks this past summer.

July and January weather. We did have a few 110ºF days. Today, in the dead of winter, it’s 60ºF and thunder storming. It’s the second year Michigan’s winter is full of spring and summer weather.

  1. I had to laugh at your comments about the cross country skiers. I formed the opinion that they are a bunch of elitist snobs back in the 70’s when they tried to throw me off a system of trails that I had made for snowshoeing.

They certainly keep a close eye on where I’m treading. So glad the mountain bike trail just reopened!

  2. As is the norm – BOOFUL PICTURES! Good to know you are still around, girl. Oh, I keep forgetting to compliment you on the picture at the top – it’s so U (I think) since I have never met you personally, lol. Still trying to pry you for info – where are you working? Is it a government secret or something (like, if I told you – I’d have to kill you)!

  3. Left out a thought – we are above normal with snowfall now with two dustings and a big 2.5 inch snowfall. In a few days, we are going to reach 70 degrees. Virginia has unusual wheather for its norm.

I remember the grasshopper. But your ant hills? Whoa. We don’t see those here. What a difference a degree or two of latitude makes – at least, to the ants.
