It’s worth the deer ticks.

The youngest deer with a bright reddish coat.

A yearling playing "kick the baby". The younger deer had a large chunk of fur missing from its leg.

The matriarch.

One eye on Mom, one leg kicking the crap out of your sibling.

Youngest in the back furthest from the food.

See the fur missing from the back left leg? Notice anything else? (:

  1. Up early again? Great close-ups of the deer. I got bitten by a deer tick about 3 years ago when I was crawling around trying to get a photo. I still have the scar. And it still itches once in a while. My doc says the tick gave me a gift that keeps on giving. :-)

    Happy Tuesday, Melkssa :-)

I actually slept in and just scheduled the blog to be published early. (:

Aw I’m sorry to hear you’ve actually been bitten by a tick. No lyme disease I hope!? We’ve actually been strangely lucky and never been bitten by one…though my brother’s family has who lives an hour south. Maybe we’re lucky and the neighbor’s guinea fowl eat them all. (: Hugs Bob!!

I love to see them in the forest too, but I rarely get to see them for more than a second before they run off when I’m in the woods! Thanks for stopping xandi (:

  5. Are these deer right near your house? Amazing pics!

Yes Julie they are right outside the back door of the house. It seems that anytime I have plans and must leave the house by a certain time, I can look outside and see the coolest things. I always chance being late and stop and take the pictures!

  7. Melissa,

Your photography seems to get better and better and that is not to say anything negative about previous shots. But WOW – these are fantabulous! Guess my mammalcentric (is that a word?) personality is showing big time! ! To wrap it up – WWWWWOOOOOWWWWWWWWW!

Thanks Louis! I love when it is cold enough to draw the mammals closer. (:
