Males can be selfish when it comes to food.

sunset...not much more to say on that one

Downy Woodpecker. Males tend to feed on small branches , and females on larger branches and trunks. According to Cornell's website, males keep females from foraging in the more productive spots. Bastards.

  1. Hey, I guess they don’t want the girls to get fat and ugly. :-)

Great photo, by the way. I wish we had downies down here.

High here today was only 34 degrees. I feel like I’m back in Michigan. No snow though. A few flurries yesterday but didn’t stay but a few minutes.

No sun again here today either… but warmer than Texas! Can you believe it?
I’m so glad you’re from MI so you can appreciate these wild weather reports.

We had a few moments of flurries weeks ago, but nothing since. The ground is sloshing wet still. Earlier this fall, for the first time ever, I slipped support cushions into my rain boots- best decision ever. (:

Does the cold affect your Marfar Syndrome?

      • Yes, I can believe it that it is warmer there. Holy cow, it is only 22 degrees this Wednesday morning.

You don’t look old enough to have to wear support shoes. :-)

No, my Marfan’s Syndrome isn’t bother by the cold a bit. I take my little pill every morning and then I basically ignore it. I’m good to go for another 20 years……..or more. :-)

        Thanks for asking, Melissa, xo

Thanks Bethanne. Where are you that it’s humid? We are so dry and peeling here by Dec. that humidity is intriguing.

  4. That applies to human males as well (some human males that is). Oh, it is a VERY balmy 70 degrees in South-Central Virginia today. Unfortunately turns drastically colder tonight. Great pictures, Melissa. I’ll get back to ya with the pics I was speaking of – just been busy the last few days.
