Be careless in your dress if you will, but keep a tidy soul. -Mark Twain

I saw some Eastern Towhees for the first time in the yard recently. I’ve never seen one before.

I read that Eastern Towhees are likely to visit or live near brushy, shrubby, or overgrown borders. Less tidy makes for great habitat.

  1. Out here we have the western version, the Spotted Towhee. Nearly identical.

I noticed the Western Version reading up on the Towhee. They do look very similar!

  2. I too am much more used to the Spotted Towhee (and also the California Towhee, but that looks nothing like the Spotted or Eastern)

    Thanks for sharing

I think we only have one type of Towhee in Michigan to make things easier on me. I’m afraid they may be long gone after this week of rain and temps in the 30’s. (just like my last trip to California…coldest week on record in the last 60 years) (:
