The birds are getting smarter…luckily they usually die every year.

A pair of robins have chased away any blue jays that come near these trees so I figured they had a nest site nearby.

Yesterday I ran out to the bus stop early to see if I could spot the nest, but had no luck. I finally spotted the nest looking out from a second story window.

Since trees don’t have leaves yet, robins normally build their first nest in an evergreen tree.

The robin building this skyscraper nest is an unusually light gray color..the same light gray as the robin who nested in the yard last year. Robins usually only live about a year. Maybe this gal was a baby and encoded my nosiness….Why else would she build a nest 40 ft. up in an unprotected tree?

The robin's nest is in the crook of the tree by the red printing.

When I was outside she was twisting around shaping the nest with her breast…handy!

  1. Interesting stuff; blue jays are really aggressive bullies, aren’t they? I guess robins will puff up and defend their turf even against bullies? We have lots of mockingbirds in texas (the state bird) and i’ve always noticed how aggressive they and blue jays are.

They are so aggressive. I had read they’ll eat other birds’ eggs and hatchlings. Intense!
