Melissa Fischer. wild in Michigan. naturalist

A regular visitor is rare.

"Mom your turkeys are running through our sled tracks and ruining them again!"

What I think is a Cooper's Hawk. Reading "Status: special concern. Uncommon winter resident." instills a slight amount of doubt. When the hawk flies in the songbirds scatter almost violently.

....and for the summer picture when the sun shows up... a seagull nest on the shores of Lake Michigan.

Great photos, Melissa! I love that your kids call them “your turkeys” :) Coopers or Sharp-shinned maybe? Very well-spotted!

Thanks Helen. I was thinking perhaps a Sharp-shinned, but it moves so quickly and keeps too much distance to be sure. It is so fast!
